In an exciting development, Android, the widely-used mobile operating system, has revealed a brand-new logo and wordmark, marking the first major update in four years. The revamped visual identity aims to reflect Android’s growth and embrace its diverse user base. This announcement has sparked enthusiasm and anticipation among Android enthusiasts worldwide.
New Logo
Android, developed by tech giant Google, has become a dominant force in the mobile industry, powering countless devices across the globe. With its latest logo and wordmark makeover, Android seeks to modernize its visual representation while preserving the beloved green robot, which has become an iconic symbol of the brand. The new logo seems to be a 3D version of the Android green robot head with shadows and highlights.
Debuting first at CES 2023, the new Android logo presents a simplified and sleeker version of the well-known Android robot. The design retains the robot’s head and upper torso, showcasing it in a more dynamic stance. The antennas have undergone refinement, giving them a polished appearance.

New Wordmark
Alongside the logo redesign, Android has introduced a new wordmark that elegantly spells out the brand name in a modern typeface. The revised wordmark replaces the lowercase “a” with a tall capital “A”. Also the “n” and “r” are much rounded, very similar to the old android logo from 2014.

For years android has used lowercase letters and it’s very easy to recognize. Now it seems a bit unfamiliar.
During Google I/O 2023, Android showcased the new logo and wordmark, describing Android as the “Most expressive OS.” This appearance hinted at a reimagining of the Bugdroid avatar rather than a permanent rebranding, as no official announcements were made at that time. Nevertheless, the refreshed visual identity generated excitement among attendees.

But recently, a representative from Google stated to 9TO5Google,
“Android has grown and evolved significantly since our last logo update. Our new logo and wordmark represent our commitment to staying at the forefront of technology while embracing the diversity of our global user base.”

While the old logo and wordmark remain in use on the Official Android Website, Google’s press corner, and Android’s brand guidelines, the new logo, and wordmark have found their place in various areas. Android Authority found them in several newsroom announcements like Generative AI, Android ecosystem, and the Find My Device Network announcement.

The updated visual identity, showcased at CES 2023 and Google I/O, reflects Android’s innovative spirit and aims to provide a modern and recognizable brand presence.
